FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will this levy cost more money?: No
The current levy that supports fire operations is set to expire at the end of its term. The proposed measure will replace the expiring levy, maintaining the same funding level to ensure continued fire protection and emergency services for the community. There will be no increase in the overall financial burden on our residents.

How much is requested?: 4 mills
The last levy request was in 2020 and was a 4 mill 5 year levy that added 4 mills in new taxes.  Our current residential effective millage is 8.15 mills. Jackson Township is in the lower third of effective fire levy millage in Franklin County, and has a strong history of responsibly managing fire operations.

How much will it cost?: $80 per $100,000 of home value
In total homeowners in Jackson TWP. currently pay approximately $285 per $100,000 of home value. the average fire levy property tax rate in Franklin County is $326.61 per $100,000 of home value.

What will this levy be used for?: Operations, Equipment, and Growth
The budget is primarily focused on supporting emergency response, dedicated to staffing, training, and maintaining readiness. Additional expenditures cover the operation and upkeep of fire stations, vehicles, and essential equipment such as protective gear, radios, and medical supplies. The budget also invests in capital needs like apparatus replacement, facility improvements, and technology upgrades, as well as community risk reduction programs and public education. Together, these expenditures ensure reliable emergency response and ongoing fire protection services for the community.

What has changed since 2015?: Increased call volumes, needs of staffing and equipment, fire department programs such as Community Paramedic and costs of operations.
In 2024 the Jackson TWP. Fire Dept responded to 11,633 calls for service. compared to 10 years ago the department responded to 8,694 calls for service. This is a 33.8% increase over the last 10 years. Since the 4.0 mill levy was approved, the fire department has seen a 26.7% increase in runs. If Issue 36 is voted down, residents and leaders will be faced with the reality of reduced services and staffing.
